
“Ga Shenxian”, or "Immortal Seeking" Temple Fair, is a folk customs fair held around the birthday of Lu Dongbin (one of the eight Immortals in some Chinese legendary stories) ,which falls on the fourteenth day of the fourth lunar month of the year at the Changmen area centering around the Immortal Temple. "ga", meaning hustle and bustle in a crowd. This temple fair is an annual show in Suzhou for flower exhibition. As Suzhou is commercially prosperous and highly developed in the handicraft industry, the Ga Shenxian temple fair also becomes a market for commercial exchange. All commodities sold on that day will bear one word “immortals”, such as tea for immortals, flower for immortals, etc. The temple fair went in accordance with people's aesthetic ideal and folk psychology, with a strong romantic color and local characteristics.
